Our Mandate
ABOUT THE LSCC
The Legal Sector Charter Council (LSCC) is mandated to oversee, monitor, and ensure the implementation of the Broad – Based Black Economic Legal Sector Code of Good Practice (LSC), which was gazetted on 20 September 2024 in terms of s.9 (1) the B-BBEE Act 53 of 2013 as amended, it became operational on March 1st, 2025.
- Drive meaningful transformation within the legal profession.
Ensure equality and broaden access to justice and economic opportunity.
Ensure a fair flow of quality legal work to Black legal practitioners and Black law firms in the sector.
Revise and update the Code to reflect the evolving needs of the sector.
Our Journey
ABOUT THE LSCC
Transformation of the legal profession has been a collective effort guided by key milestones:
2020
A Steering Committee, made up of representatives from the legal profession and supported by the Legal Practice Council (LPC), was established to develop the Legal Sector Code
2021
After conducting country wide consultations with the Sector, the draft Legal Sector Code was submitted to the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC) to publish it for comment
2024
The Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Mr. Parks Tau, gazetted the LSC, making compliance with the Code binding on all organs of state and public entities as well as private entities who elect to be measured for B-BBEE
2025
The LSCC was established, and monitors compliance with the Legal Sector Code amongst others.
